Me in 5, 10, and 15 Years

I have always been a planner. My husband knows all too well that I love to have almost everything planned out. I hate when things don't go according to plan. While I love spontaneity, it just better not screw with my plans. When the 30 things my kids should know about me list asked about where I see myself in 5, 10, and 15 years, this post was right up my alley. I have made plans for my life since as far back as I remember. So far, they have pretty much followed a perfect plan.

So where do I see myself in 5 years? As of right now, in 5 years I plan to be a mother first and foremost. While right now I am pregnant with number 3, I am sure baby number 4 (or maybe even 5 at the rate we are going) will debut. Secondly, I plan to be celebrating my 8 year wedding anniversary with the most amazing man ever. I also plan to be in a larger house than what we are in now. We are quickly outgrowing our 3 bedroom and need to be in a bigger house very soon. I will have finished my undergraduate studies in Criminal Justice. I will also have finished law school (if all goes according to plan). I plan to be working (a bitter sweet choice) and my babies will be in school! This last bit seems the craziest to me. Nolan will be turning 8, Ryenn will be turning 7, and baby boy will be turning 5!

10 years from now seems a bit more difficult for me to fathom. I will be in a stable law firm working in multiple law fields (criminal, family, and estate planning). I will be celebrating 13 years of marriage. I will be a mother to a teenager! Nolan will be turning 13, Ryenn will be turning 12, and baby boy will be turning 10! Nolan will be finishing middle school!

15 years! I can't imagine celebrating my 40th birthday! But 15 short years from now, this will be happening. I will still be a lawyer. Possibly working as a partner or in my own firm. I would also like to be teaching a law class in a university. I will be celebrating 18 years of marriage (almost 2 decades!!). Nolan will be turning 18! He will be finishing high school in a year! Ryenn will be close behind him turning 17 years old and a sophomore in high school. Baby boy will be turning 15 and learning to drive! We will have our new house paid off by now, at the latest.

While I like to plan, seeing how quickly my kids will be growing makes me sad. I want them to stay little forever. So with that being said, I am going to kiss their little foreheads while they sleep right now....before they are going off to college and getting married!

Playdate with my Little Dude!

Babysitting lately has not allowed for me to have a lot of one-on-one time with Nolan or Ryenn. And seeing as Ryenn naps and Nolan doesn't, one-on-one time with Ryenn is almost nonexistent  Today I got some play time with just Nolan and I. Scarlet and Ryenn actually decided to nap at the same time, which never happens. So Nolan and I soaked up the sun, played with the dogs, and enjoyed the freshly fixed swingset. Just him and I! Enjoy the follow pictures of the world's cutest boy and his adventure in the first 60+ degree day since last summer.

21 Week (and 1 Day) Update

We have officially crossed over into territory where we have less time left being pregnant than we have been pregnant so far. 21 weeks along! That's 19 weeks to go. I had my 20 week appointment on Thursday and was measuring small. To me that sounds great. Although, I am now worried that this could be my first full term pregnancy or even going past my due date.

My Relationship with My Parents

It only makes sense that the 30 things my kids should know about me list would include MY relationship with my parents. In all honesty, I wasn't sure how to answer this. While initially I think it's amazing, there's that nagging thing in my head saying otherwise.

My parents, my mom and my step-dad, are two of the most important people in my life. They have been by my side through everything; high school math homework, douche bag boyfriends, child birth, marriage, and everything in between. I can turn to them for anything. Making them proud of the life I live is one of my goals. I aim to be the strong, loving mother mine is. I aim to be the intelligent, compassionate person my step dad is. It makes me happy to know when I make them proud. They raised me to be an independent thinker, strong, and love with everything I have. While I did not always listen to them, I learned the hard way from doing so. They have excepted when I have made mistakes and helped me work through them. They have loved me through every temper tantrum, every stubborn argument, and every overly emotional moment I may have had in my life. My step-dad and mom two of my best friends. I feel that I could turn to my parents for a shoulder to cry on, advice, and support. They mean the world to me and I owe my life to them.

FO Baby Pod

On the first of April, I whipped out a baby pod set. I must say that this may be one of my favorite things to knit. It takes very little time (comparatively) and very little variation throughout the construction. In other words, I can easily knit this while watching my kids. I sent it out a while ago, but haven't had a chance to share.

20 Week (and 4 day) Update!

This is an exciting milestone in my pregnancy. We found out the sex of this little bundle. While most of you already know what we are having (thanks to Facebook and Twitter), some of you may not. We are adding another baby boy to this world! I thought for sure that I was having a girl, but I was wrong. I have been wrong every time so far. I guess I just needed to keep up my track record. Adam is excited to be getting another son as well. So the girls in the Dykhuizen house will soon be outnumbered. Ryenn and I are each a force to be reckoned with, so I'm pretty sure God said that the world couldn't handle three of us.

I have been regaining energy, but still not back to normal. I think this mostly has to do with my awful sleeping patterns as well as both Nolan AND Ryenn deciding nap time is no longer needed. I usually get a little break when Ryenn naps, but she has decided in the last week that she doesn't want to nap. Nolan has also been a little sick, so he doesn't really sleep through the night. This is leaving an already tired mom even more tired.

My 5 Passions

Passions come in all forms; hobbies, causes, areas of study, etc. 30 things my kids should know about me include a list of 5 of my passions. Listing these 5 things is easy for me. However, I thought I would give some background and insight as to why these are my passions.

Historical Make Believe Dinner

For the 30 things my kids should know about me list, dinner is the topic. If I could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be and what would I eat? I contemplated who would I want to sit down to dinner with most. I tossed up the idea of presidents, famous actors/actresses, and even physiologists  It seemed so clear to me once I just cleared my head. Jesus Christ.

I feel that sitting down to dinner with Jesus would be the most beneficial, eye opening, and best choice for this hypothetical dinner. I have so many questions for him and I think knowing the answers could lead me to living the best life I possibly can. I would want to know how the Word of God applies to today, what he would think about different issues we are faced with in modern times, and where we need to be heading our lives in. I would want to know where my flaws need most fixing, how my loved ones who have passed are doing, and what I can do to change the world. I would want to know that I have truly been forgiven for my sins and that I can make mistakes without fearing the worst eternity for myself. I would also want to know the best way on how to teach my children to live the best life in God's eyes.

19 Week (and 1 day) Update

19 weeks along. I feel like it was just yesterday when we found out and announced that we were expecting baby number 3. To be honest, I feel like it was just yesterday that we found out we were pregnant for the first time. I can't believe how fast, yet slow, this pregnancy seems to be going. I am excited to know that this coming Saturday we will know if this new addition will outnumber the girls or boys. I still don't know if I am hoping for a boy or girl. I think I am leaning more towards a boy, just because Nolan has been a lot easier to take care of than Ryenn. However, I have a lot more fun making and buying things for Ryenn. Let's face it, boys clothes are a little boring. I also have a lot more names that I love for a girl (Adam does not agree with my choices still). I feel that there are a lot more options for naming a girl that fit our naming style with the younger two while not being too trendy. I do not want a name on the top baby name lists like I have said before, and that doesn't leave a lot for choices for boys.

Butterflies and Toddlers

Last year we checked out the butterflies at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park for the first time EVER for me. It was so fun! It was amazing to have the butterflies fly so close and even land on some people. This coming from someone who is beyond terrified of bugs. Adam and I decided to pack the kids up on Friday, seeing as I had the day off from babysitting AND the weather was gorgeous, and check them out again.

Easter Weekend Celebration

Most people celebrate Easter on Sunday, and only Sunday. However, with having two different halves of the family to celebrate with, we make it a weekend. We started out on Saturday heading to my mother-in-laws. She made the traditional Easter dinner with Ham and all the trimmings for us, my brother-in-law, and grandma. She got the kids a few treats and toys to celebrate the day. She got Nolan a new puzzle, Ryenn a new baby doll, and coloring books for the two of them.

We celebrated the Easter bunny visiting on Sunday morning. The Easter bunny is a fantastic giver every year to our kids. He spoils them too much!
