Minnie Mouse Hat

Now just because I have a newborn AND haven't been updating this blog very often, doesn't mean I haven't kept on creating. I promise you, I have a ton of projects to share. We will start with one I started AND finished the other night. This adorable freaking Minnie Mouse hat.

Sorry, I forgot to take a good picture with my camera and had this sent via mobile phone (better than no picture in my mind)
Baby Lacey turned 1 and we celebrated her birthday this past Sunday. On Saturday night, I started her gift. I had planned to start way earlier but with all the problems with my epidural and then trying to catch up on housework prevented that. But remember that I am pretty good under pressure. I was planning to follow the Mouse Hat pattern by Chasity Edwards, but decided to alter it quite a bit. I made the ears pom poms and added ear flaps for winter. I also added a red band to the bottom to simulate Minnie's dress. I did not have buttons to add as polka dots and did not leave myself enough time to duplicate stitch them on either. Nonetheless, I love the way it turned out.

Floral Blanket the Sequel

I was contacted earlier this week for a special order. This woman is having her first girl and wants something very special for her. She loved the floral blanket that I made earlier this year for Kylee. We have been talking back and forth this week deciding on colors, price, and time frame.

I loved the outcome of the first blanket and was very excited when she wanted this new version to be very girly in the color scheme. I have been wanting to make one for Ryenn in girly colors and love that I am going to be able to see a version of it before I zero in on my own colors. I whipped up a small sample for her earlier this week to gauge the fullness of the flowers with the yarn she wanted to use as well as the colors together. Here is the sample that has colors similar to what she is looking for.

Wyatt Austin Dykhuizen is HERE!!!

It's been a whirlwind since my last post. Most of you are well aware that Wyatt has entered this world. However, the story of his birth is quite long and has been the reason for my lack of blogging. I mean Sunday was the first full day that I was able to do anything other than lie down. But we will get to that. Let's start with the labor.

While most people talk about their labors being full of excruciating pain and hours upon hours of pushing and contractions, mine was not that way (the first picture above is when we got to our delivery room and the second is after 14 hours of being in the hospital in labor). My water broke around noon. I was asleep on the couch when I felt the urge to pee and realized I couldn't hold it in if I tried. It wasn't the big gush of water like in the movies (just like with my first two). Instead, I would continue to lose fluid up until Wyatt was actually born. I seriously kept leaking for the entire labor. We headed to the hospital around 2pm. I was having contractions, but they were very irregular in time. They would not follow a pattern to save my life.
