FO Dog Sweater #2

I know that I finished the two dog sweaters about a month ago, but I just got a picture of the second one on the dog today. I was very nervous about this sweater and how it would fit. This is mostly because I used a thicker yarn which meant I had to modify the pattern to accomodate my yarn choice.

Although I have knit this very pattern using these very colors, this one was a struggle. When I got the order for this poor little pug with some sort of allergy or disease that makes him lose his hair, I was willing to do just about anything she asked to help him out. So sleeves was what I needed to tackle.

I got an order last week for 2 custom dog sweaters. I started knitting the first one using the same striping I used in the sweaters I sent to Brooklyn Farmacy and Soda Fountain in Brooklyn, New York last year.

With so much going on this week with the house, I have neglected a lot of things. Including my blog and my knitting. Nonetheless, I have made some progress on my Two Boyfriends cardigan since last week. I finished the vertical side, with so much agony in doing so. The pain was worth it because it is turning out exactly how I wanted it to look.

Two Boyfriends with Split Personalities

Allyson, knitting pattern guru, designed a cardigan pattern a few years back that I have already knit a few times. The second thing I ever knit was this pattern during one of her knit-alongs. I joined the knit-along two weeks late with my first version and then joined two weeks after that (so four weeks in) with my second version. That's two sweaters in less than eight weeks.

Romper to T-shirt in 10 Minutes

For the second half of our family pictures, I really wanted Nolan to have a different shirt than a plain white polo t-shirt. I was also too cheap to buy him a new t-shirt just for pictures, seeing as he has so many clothes. Instead, I decided to alter a romper he had that didn't quite fit anymore.

FO Stockings

I finished the stockings this past Friday. They turned out really great! Adding the names completed them so much more than I thought they would. I am mailing them out tomorrow, and can't wait to hear how she likes them! Check them out!

WIP Stockings

Although the title of this post is work in progress stockings, I have finished four of the five stockings. I still need to stitch on the names for each one AND finish the fifth one. They look better than I anticipated though. I always seem to expect them to turn out looking very amateurish even though I have been knitting for almost three years now.

Nonetheless, they are nearing completion. The weight of this project is lifting of my shoulders. I started this project a while back but put them aside numerous times, but finally made progress near the end of July.

FO Summer Sweater

I finished the Work+Shelter Summer Lace Sweater on Friday. It was fun knitting a sweater using the colors I did. I knit it a little too big, but thought it would be nicer with more room to breathe.

I wanted to knit the whole thing in the mint green, but as I was knitting it up, I felt that it would not look as good fully green. So instead, I used a color scheme I found on a sweater from Target a while ago.

I struggled a bit with joining the sleeves. This was mainly due to the fact that I was trying when I had had very little sleep.

Once I stopped over thinking it and just followed directions, rather than skip ahead, I found it to be fairly easy.

Christmas in July?!

I was commissioned a little bit ago to knit up five stockings for a relative of Allyson's boyfriend, PT, and have had the yarn on stand by for quite some time. She sent my the schematics she wanted and the colors she preferred. I went out and bought the yarn about a month and a half ago. I must say that these colors make me want to knit a Christmas sweater or myself.

Anyway, I bought Loops and Thread Impeccable in three different shades; cherry, soft fern, and white. She asked for her and her husband's stockings to be the same and her three kids' stockings to be the same. I have decided to follow her schematic to the letter with her and her husband's. However, I am inverting the colors with the three kids'. These will be stripes that vary in size. I got started this week and have struggled with the heel of the stocking. Not due to the difficulty, but because I am not liking the look. I had to knit up the heel part three times before I was happy with the way it looked. Progress is being made, though. And at a faster rate than expected (even with the delays).

Although I have had this top finished for a while, it has taken me a while to get some pictures of it on me. I was excited to shoot some this week so I could share the finished project with you. Not just for Paris

In my journey through knitting, I have been privileged to work with great clients and given the opportunity to knit some pretty cool things. Allyson has thrown some pretty great knitting jobs at me fo requests that she has gotten that she is just too busy to do herself. Let's face it, knitting takes a lot of time and when you are coordinating magazines, books, and 2 different websites, you are bound to be busy. Luckily for me, Allyson gets a lot of requests and she asks me to knit some of them up. The first project she threw my way was a request for dog sweaters.

I know you may be thinking "how silly to purchase a handknit sweater for a dog" but it happens quite a bit. My good friend, Miki, actually bought a dog sweater for her pitbull who has some sort of disorder where he has trouble keeping warm. It made sense to me and opened my eyes to the fact that it isn't just Paris Hilton dressing their dogs in sweaters.

Anyway, so this request for knitted dog sweaters came from a woman in Brooklyn, New York at a boutique called the Brooklyn Farmacy and Soda Fountain. I knit up 4 different sweaters using bright colors and stripes. I made them in a uniform, small size and sent them off.

Gia from Brooklyn was pleased with the results but wanted something that would stand out. She wanted the sweaters to be different from everywhere else, and just stripes were not going to cut it. I then designed 3 more different sweaters. There was one with a Mohawk down the center of the back, one with a single stripe down the center ot the back, and one with a trelis cable pattern.
